Why isn't my featured image showing up in my mailing?

Sometimes WordPress users are frustrated to find when they begin to use the Visual Mail Editor (VME) either the wrong image or no image appears in the Automated Campaign block.

Generally, the cause of this issue is related to how the the WordPress site posts are formatted. Some WordPress post templates use a featured image that is added outside of the content of the post.

Images that are not inserted into the body of a post are not automatically included in the RSS feed of a WordPress site.

If the set-up of your WordPress site requires that you use the Featured Image option rather than inserting an image into the body of a post, some plugins can be used to insert the image into the RSS feed.

Navigate in your WordPress dashboard to Add New Plugin and search for featured image in RSS feed. There are several options to choose from. You will want to choose an option that is up-to-date and compatible with your version of WordPress.

After adding the plugin, check its settings to determine if it is possible to control the size of the image in the feed. You will want the image to be a minimum of 600px in width if you wish to display a full-size hero image. If you wish to display a thumbnail image, you will wish to use an image that is at least 150px in width. Meeting these minimum sizes ensures that the images in your mailing will not be blurry when displayed on tablets, laptops, or desktops at full size.

Other reasons your image may not be displayed in the VME.

Truncated feed

If the featured image issue was not the cause. You may need to determine if you have set your RSS feed to truncated.

In your WordPress dashboard, click Settings > Reading and ensure that the radio button to the right of: For each post in a feed include: is set to Full text. If it was set to Excerpt. Change it to Full text and click Save Changes. If your site has a caching plugin, clear the cache.

Security plugin

If the feed is set to Full text, a security plugin may not allow the images to be displayed. Check with your technical support to determine what settings need to be changed. The FeedBlitz Support team is happy to answer any questions they may have.
